Whoopi Goldberg Launches First Global Sports Network Exclusively for Women
Whoopi Goldberg has announced the launch of the All Women’s Sports Network (AWSN), the first global television channel dedicated exclusively to women’s sports. AWSN aims to provide comprehensive coverage of women’s athletics worldwide, featuring live broadcasts of sports such as football, basketball, tennis, and volleyball from major leagues including UEFA, FIBA, WTA, and WNBL.
The network has already established a presence in regions like Asia, the Middle East, and India through partnerships with platforms such as JioTV. An announcement regarding its U.S. launch is expected soon.
Goldberg’s vision for AWSN includes not only live sports coverage but also original programming that delves into the culture surrounding women’s sports, offering behind-the-scenes features, athlete interviews, and documentaries. She envisions initiatives like athlete trading cards to celebrate female athletes and foster a deeper connection with fans.
This initiative addresses the longstanding under-representation of women’s sports in media, where they have historically received less than 10% of total coverage. By providing a dedicated platform, AWSN seeks to elevate women’s sports and offer female athletes the recognition they deserve.
